Batik is a significant symbol of Indonesian culture and craftsmanship, and we are proud to honor this tradition at our school. To commemorate National Batik Day, all YIS students, teachers, staff, and parents wear Batik today as part of the celebration.
Selamat Hari Batik Nasional!

Last week, our youngest students had a fun activity at school. They had a tea party with their friends, decorating donuts, eating popcorn, feeding rabbits, and harvesting vegetables from the nursery. This joyful activity allowed the students to explore the environment around them using their five senses: sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell. Students also learned about nature, animals, and social interactions in a nurturing environment.
As part of PYP exploration of the transdisciplinary theme "Who We Are," PYP grade 2 to grade 6 students embarked on an educational visit to Borobudur Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site that holds significant cultural and historical value in Indonesia.
By exploring the temple's intricate carvings and architectural marvels, students engaged in meaningful research into the cultural narratives, religious beliefs, and artistic manifestations that define our collective identity. This hands-on learning experience enhanced not just the students’ knowledge of historical civilizations, but also instilled a sense of appreciation for the vast cultural diversity that shapes who we are today.
Japanese encephalitis (JE) is a viral infection spread by mosquitoes that can cause severe neurological illness, including encephalitis (brain inflammation). It is commonly found in rural and agricultural areas of Asia and the Western Pacific.
Following the discovery of JE cases in Yogyakarta and several regions in Indonesia, the Indonesian government initiated the JE vaccination campaign to protect children from the infection. Our preschool through grade 9 students received their JE vaccinations on Tuesday, September 24th, 2024, with the assistance of doctors and nurses from Puskesmas Mlati 1.

Yesterday, our kindergarten and grade 1 students went on a field trip to Obelix Village, allowing them to explore the world around them using their five senses: sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell. Through hands-on activities, such as planting, animal feeding, and "bakpia" making, students observed how their senses help them understand and interact with their environment. This experience supports the IB’s emphasis on inquiry-based learning by fostering students' curiosity as they explore connections between what they sense and how they see the world.
