Yesterday, our kindergarten and grade 1 students went on a field trip to Obelix Village, allowing them to explore the world around them using their five senses: sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell. Through hands-on activities, such as planting, animal feeding, and "bakpia" making, students observed how their senses help them understand and interact with their environment. This experience supports the IB’s emphasis on inquiry-based learning by fostering students' curiosity as they explore connections between what they sense and how they see the world.

At Yogyakarta Independent School, our highest priorities are the safety and well-being of our students and staff. As a school committed to environmental sustainability, we teach our students how to help save the environment. One of the lessons taught to the students is about composting. Composting education helps students understand the environmental impact of waste and the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling. It instills a sense of responsibility for taking care of the planet.

For two days, our Grade 11 students will sit for the ANBK (Asesmen Nasional Berbasis Komputer), a mandatory assessment from Indonesia's Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. The objective of this assessment is to encourage improvements in the quality of learning and student learning outcomes. We are proud that, as one of the few authorized international schools in Yogyakarta, we can participate in this assessment.

The annual YIS Merdeka Games is more than just a celebration; it's an opportunity for us all—students, parents, teachers, and staff—to come together in the true spirit of teamwork, cooperation, and sportsmanship. Through engaging in traditional games, we aim to celebrate the spirit of independence while strengthening the sense of community and national pride within our school.
