Lunar New Year is celebrated by nearly 2 billion people around the world. One of our goals as an International Baccalaureate World School is to instill in our children a sense of international-mindedness. This approach is critical in educating our students to be global players.

To that end, YIS students, parents, and teachers celebrated the Lunar New Year today with singing, poetry reading and also wushu performances. A lion dance group was also invited to perform for students and parents. We hope that the Year of Wood Dragon brings us prosperity and joy.

Our Grade 8 students are aware of the waste problems in Yogyakarta. They talked about it and decided to do a "Service as Action" project on Malioboro Street to help the Malioboro workers clear up trash and encourage people to stop littering. Other than that, the students also shared some food with the cleaning service workers to express their gratitude and appreciation.

We understand the importance of family time and the benefits of engaging in outdoor activities, which is why we organized family outbound activities last Friday for all our Early Years students and families.

This outdoor activity, which took place at Sobo Ndeso Outbound, was designed to give families the opportunity to gather together, enjoy the great outdoors, and participate in activities that promote collaboration, communication, and enjoyment.

Following the exploration of the unit on Play (Kindergarten A-B), Culture (Grade 1-2), and Creative Expressions (Grade 3-4), YIS PYP has organized an Educational Fun Trip to Sleman City Hall shopping mall. The students participated in three distinctive activities, including an educational tour focused on mall safety, a baking class, and recreational time at the playground.
