On Saturday, November 18, 2023 the traditional Jogja International Heritage Walk (JIHW) was held along a scenic walking route around the Prambanan temple complex. Some of our students, teachers, parents and staff actively participated in the 10km walking event. We believe that by participating in this event, our YIS students and teachers will be able to widen their horizons, make new friends, and gain a greater respect for Yogyakarta's cultural history.

We have exposed our students to the Javanese Gamelan for the past two days. They learn about its history and how to play traditional Javanese music. For some, this is their first time holding and playing Gamelan. It was an exciting experience!

A field trip allows students and teachers to get out of the formal context of the classroom and cultivate shared experiences.

Today, all of our students from the Early Years to the Diploma Programme had meaningful experiences visiting Bhumi Merapi, a nature-based attraction constructed in artificial settings that faces the challenge of balancing the potentially conflicting aims of conservation, education, and entertainment.

Spanish classes are offered at YIS to promote multilingualism, global awareness, cultural understanding, and international-mindedness among students.

Last week, some of our Grade 8 & 9 students had a cooking class with Ibu Paloma and Pak Irish, our Spanish teachers. They learned how to make two recipes that are well-known in Spain: empanadillas and ensaladilla rusa. This fun learning activity gave the students a chance to explore and appreciate diverse cultures and culinary traditions.

The Grade 3 and 4 students were having a wonderful time last weekend. They spent one night, camping with their classmates at school.

Camping introduces students to nature, teaches teamwork, and boosts their confidence. It's a break from screens, promoting an active, healthy lifestyle and a love for the outdoors.
