We haven't had a martial arts class at our school in a long time. Starting this week, our PYP and MYP students will be able to learn about taekwondo, South Korea's well-known martial arts.

Basic stances and punches were some of the things that the students learned yesterday afternoon. Hot and sunny weather does not lower their spirit to practice and to know more about taekwondo.

Monday marked the official beginning of the YIS students' extracurricular activities. There are a variety of activities available for PYP, MYP and DP students, including Taekwondo, Fun Soccer, Celebgram, Volleyball, Photography Club, Dance Club, Drama Club, and Computer Club.

Among the PYP students, Fun Soccer is one of the most favored activities. Our Grade 1 through Grade 6 students enjoyed themselves tremendously yesterday afternoon as they scored goal after goal on the YIS outdoor sports field.

This morning, our students are invited to attend the Jogja Japan Week opening ceremony to celebrate the 65th anniversary of cooperation between Indonesia and Japan.

During the ceremony, we were entertained by special musical and dance performances that symbolize the friendship and harmony between Indonesia and Japan. After the performances, the event was opened by the Vice Governor of Yogyakarta Province, KGPAA Paku Alam X, and also attended by the Deputy Ambassador of the Japan Embassy, Mr. Tamura Masami.

For two days, our Grade 11 students will sit for the ANBK (Asesmen Nasional Berbasis Komputer / Computer-based National Assessment), a mandatory assessment from Indonesia's Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.

There are three instruments used in this evaluation program. The Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM), which comprises assessments in literacy and numeracy, comes first. The environmental survey came in second, followed by a character survey in third.
