Why do we need to separate our waste?

Waste that is not separated usually ends up in landfill sites. These sites contain tons of waste that take hundreds of years to decompose. And some of this waste, such as some plastics will never disappear.

Our Grade 8 students took an initiative to educate their friends at school concerning waste separation as part of their Service as Action Program. They called it the "Think Before Throw" program. They prepared two bins for organic and non-organic waste, and they also went to each class to socialize their program. During lunchtime, they even sit by the bins to remind their friends to separate their waste.

In the last few weeks of Term 3, Grade 3 and 4 students are learning about business systems. We invited Bapak and Ibu Hartanto, one of the parents of our students to share about their digital printing business. The students were very excited as they found out that they could print almost anything on different kinds of media, such as t-shirts, acrylic, and art paper. They also learned that a digital printing business needs to have at least a customer service staff, a graphic designer, a marketing staff, a printing machine operator, and a director.

We had so much fun this morning as our Preschool up to Grade 6 students were dressing up as their favorite characters in the books they have read. You could find Elsa from Frozen, Harry Potter, the famous Thing 1 and Thing 2 from Dr. Seuss, Snow White, our friendly neighborhood Spiderman and many more.

After the Costume Parade, YIS parents and students were invited to join the second day of our Book Bazaar. We hope that this Book Week event will make our students love books more and increase their reading interest.

Every year we celebrate Book Week at YIS. The aim of this event is to inspire a love of books and stories, as well as an appreciation of the creative process, and also to encourage reading and literacy.

Today, a Book Bazaar was held with tons of selections of books from novels, comics, story books, and craft books. Students and parents were very enthusiastic to choose and buy the book that they like.

Tomorrow morning, a costume parade will be held where students and teachers will dress up as their favorite book characters. Don't miss it! 😊

A field trip is one of the best tools that we can use to provide every student with practical experiences. There are four primary reasons why field trips are important: improving academic growth, deepening student engagement, giving real-world experiences, promoting cultural growth, as well as enhancing critical thinking.

We had a PYP Field Trip today visiting Chocolate Monggo Museum and Taman Pintar. Students from Preschool up to Grade 6 were very enthusiastic to join every mini workshop such as making batik painting, decorating clay pottery, and making chocolate mendiants.

Fun learning is what the PYP is all about. We believe students will be more creative when they are happy.

To support that goal, YIS provides many outdoor facilities that can help the students to learn happily. YIS mini-farm is one of the outdoor facilities that our students are really fond of. Here, they can interact with geese, rabbits, turkeys, and some baby turkeys or poults.
