One of MYP Design Class Activities

Design is one of the mandatory subjects in MYP. As individuals, students are prone to express their culture and personal identity through different means of expression. These expressions can be from all aspects, whether it is a product, a presentation, or just a simple haircut. Some examples are but are not limited to: clothing, jewelry, paintings, speeches, sculptures, hairstyles, scents, tattoos, shoes, and other accessories. Design plays a significant role in expressing one’s culture and personal identity. Design allows individuals to have freedom in anything they express, especially of themselves and their culture. As seen through the examples mentioned, most artistic expressions are made through designing, whether it is fashion design, object design, architecture, or any other form.

Let's see how our MYP students are working on their Design portfolios.

PYP Buddy Reading Program

Today is #InternationalDayofEducation. Education is the most powerful weapon and the ultimate key to knowledge. In these challenging times, YIS is ready to build a sustainable future for children with our interesting learning activities.

Our Primary students are enjoying the Buddy Reading activity. Buddy Reading is a reading activity where they read the same book with friends at the same time. This allows children and their buddies to exchange thoughts on the book, enriching the reading experience for them to increase the reading proficiency of primary students. It is suggested that students are paired with reading buddies from different class levels. This will offer students the opportunities to practice fluent reading behaviors in a meaningful context. The Reading Buddies activity promotes a higher interest and engagement in reading, improvement in social and communication skills (particularly for students learning English as a second language) and, most importantly, it’s FUN!

End-of-Year Celebration 2021

On 17 December 2021, YIS students and teachers celebrated the traditional End-of-the-Year 2021 event with a sparkling musical, titled 'High Five'. The story in a nutshell: 'A country guarded by five dragons breaks up into five territories, causing the dragons to flee. After many years, the divided territories and the five lost dragons find each other again, and are reunited in friendship and harmony.' The story was written by YIS students and teachers and performed by all the Early Years, Pre-school, PYP, MYP and DP students together as singers, actors and dancers in a whirling and sparkling show.

The event was attended by the students, teachers and staff of the school, while parents and guardians followed the event online from home. After a short holiday break, the students will resume their lessons on 11 January 2022, the first day of the Third Term of the YIS academic year 2021-2022.
