The end of week 1 has arrived! Our virtual warriors in the MYP and DP have also been learning so many new things. They were really excited and interested to observe all the new things in their new grade levels.
Our first day of school was amazing. Students were really excited and they learned so many things in their new grade levels. Our YIS PYP virtual warriors are ready to prepare for the future!
Welcome to another exciting year of learning! YIS teachers have prepared a stimulating program of learning and enrichment, which is now well underway, via our DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAM. Careful planning has gone into improving students’ experiences with online learning, ensuring that they get the most out of their lessons and activities.
While we all look forward to returning to the classroom full-time, the approach to teaching and learning has developed into a new normal. Ideally, teachers and students are returning to school with new skills and expectations. Embracing the new normal and incorporating the tools that work well in our remote learning will help us to navigate our next set of challenges.
World Book Day was celebrated on 5th March 2020 and is a registered charity on a mission to give every child and young person a book of their own. It’s also a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.
On 17 September 2019 the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia published a formal statement in the national newspaper Kompas listing the YIS as the ‘ONE AND ONLY’ school in Yogyakarta that is formally licensed by the Ministry of Education and Culture to offer an international curriculum as an officially recognized SPK school. As the only authorized International Baccalaureate World School (IB) in Yogyakarta, the YIS offers the complete range from Early Years, Primary School, Junior High School, and Senior High School / Pre-university College. The Ujian Nasional is integrated into the YIS curriculum, especially for Indonesian students who constitute about 60% of the school community.
The superb quality of the YIS soccer field is praised by coaches of visiting international and national soccer teams, and by officials of the PSSI and the FIFA who came to inspect the new YIS campus on 18 September 2019. Likewise, top athletes of the UNY regularly choose the YIS olympic running track to prepare for competitions and championships. The school is proud to host these prominent athletes.
